This book was an intimate and emotional read.
I think it's so important for people to speak on their truths, no matter how dark it is, because someone, somewhere needs to know that they're not alone. Having written a book myself about a personal subject, I have a lot of respect for the resilience it takes.
In this book, Iyanla gets deep and personal about her childhood trauma, her relationships, her marriage and career and how it all impacted her in various ways. She speaks about the pain, the confusion, the grief, but also the healing, the boundaries, the self-trust, the resilience, and belief that something bigger is in play. She untangles things in a way that inspires you to understand your own life and patterns.
Her metaphorical language is one of my favourite creative writing because it simplifies language through imagery and makes complex themes easier to absorb and understand.
Reading this book gave me a deep appreciation for everything I have gone through and the lessons I have been able to extract from them. It helped me realize that even when things crumble, there's a way out and forward.
